EIU prepares for its April 11 Edible Book Festival.

Eastern Illinois book lovers will have an opportunity to linger over edible reading materials at the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Booth Library’s Edible Book Festival, a free event that is open to the public and scheduled for April 11.

There is only one catch: the artwork will not be eaten.

Anyone in the area may enter a work made from edible substances relating to books in form, shape or content. Participation is free, but interested contestants are required to preregister at www.library.eiu.edu. Alternatively, contact information may be emailed to library@eiu.edu, as well as mailed or hand-delivered to the library at 600 Lincoln Ave., Charleston, IL 61920, Attn: Edible Books.

Each participant is asked to include name; library, school and department, if applicable; phone number and email address; title of entry; and estimated size of the final piece, for display purposes.

Interested artists have until April 6 to submit their entry forms. Entries may be installed at the library after 3 p.m. on April 11, the day of the event. Public voting will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and winners will be announced shortly after.

Awards will be made in the following categories: Dean’s Choice, People’s Choice, Children’s Book Theme, Student Entry, Family Entry and Funniest Pun.
