At its November meeting, the Marshall BOE expelled five students and detailed various staff changes.

Five students were expelled, a principal retired and a head basketball coach was hired at Marshall Community Schools #C-2’s board of education meeting on Nov. 12, 2015.

The board deliberated in a closed session on discipline matters involving multiple students. It was determined that five individuals, found guilty of undisclosed charges, will face one-year expulsions with placement in an alternative school.

Additional athletic support came in the form of one boys’ volunteer basketball coach and one assistant junior high volleyball coach for the 2015-16 school year. The board also accepted high school principal Tim Pearison’s retirement, effective at the end of the school year.

After a brief closed session, it was revealed that Pearison would be the new head basketball coach at Marshall High School.

Nick Amor was named volunteer basketball coach for the fifth and sixth grade boys, and Sarah Morgan was approved as assistant junior high volleyball coach for the 2015-2016 school year.

Four board members are slated to attend an Illinois Association of School Boards conference. The Illinois Commerce Commission approved the Grain Belt Express. A representative of the district’s auditing firm was on hand to discuss the financial report and recent audit, and the board accepted the financial report.

A possible property tax freeze and tax levy for the 2016-17 school year were mentioned; policy updates, minutes, bills and reports were approved; and the board elected to postpone its annual retreat until the spring.
