Regional artist Kim Krause will present a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday in the atrium of Brainard Gallery on the Eastern Illinois University campus.
A native of Cincinnati, Krause has exhibited in more than 100 events throughout the U.S. and globally, including eight solo shows. His work has been sold to several private and public collectors, including Cincinnati Art Museum, Chase Manhattan Bank and Fidelity Investments.
His oil and spray paint work on canvas entitled “The Nature of Things #6” serves as a starting point for discussion with its vibrant shades, bold geometric shapes and dreamy color blending. The painting’s name derives from a long didactic poem scribed by a Roman poet and philosopher named Lucretius, called De rerum natura (On the Nature of Things).
Krause said that the “Nature” series is an exploration of the connections between work, family, love and sex, mortality, duties, travel and more.
Having garnered prestigious residency placements—such as the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, Rathausgalerie in Munich, The Cooper Union in New York, and the Chateau in Rochefort-en-Terre, France—Krause serves on the faculty of the Art Academy of Cincinnati as a professor of Art and is the chair of the Department of Fine Arts.
The lecture coincides with an exhibit of his work on view through March 20 at the gallery at 2010 Ninth St.
