U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) is applauding the decision by the U.S. House to release security footage from the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol Building. The event, termed an "insurrection" by some, has been criticized for its one-sided portrayal in legacy media.

“Thank you, Speaker Johnson. The American people have a right to see this footage after the lies they were told by Pelosi’s January 6 Witch Hunt Committee,” Miller said on Facebook.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has ordered tapes from the Jan. 6 riot in the U.S. Capitol to be released.

"This decision will provide millions of Americans, criminal defendants, public interest organizations, and the media an ability to see for themselves what happened that day, rather than having to rely upon the interpretation of a small group of government officials," Johnson said in a statement.

The Jan. 6 riots were allegedly influenced by members of the U.S. intelligence apparatus. Scenes from the tapes broadcast by Tucker Carlson inexplicably show police officers chaperoning protestors around the building. Critics sought to withhold public access to the 44,000 hours worth of footage over fear that identities of undercover intelligence agents would be exposed, according to AP News.

Johnson has taken steps to share these videos with interested parties.

"Follow the link below to view the January 6th tapes for yourself," Johnson said on Facebook. "To restore America’s trust and faith in their Government we must have transparency. This is another step towards keeping promises I made when I was elected as your Speaker."

"This website will be updated continuously with thousands of hours of footage."

The House has now facilitated easier public access to this historical data. The House has provided a landing page where high-definition copies of security footage from the U.S. Capitol of the events of Jan. 6 can be downloaded.
