Pro-Palestine protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol, demanding a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The demonstration, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, led to multiple arrests and calls for President Joe Biden’s intervention to halt the actions in Gaza.
“INSURRECTIONISTS are storming the Capitol in support of Hamas. They are interrupting official government proceedings. Will there be federal charges? Solitary confinement? Will FBI raid their homes? WHO PAID for their buses, signs & t-shirts? I’ll join Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene to get answers!” Miller said on Facebook.
Miller also shared a video of pro-Palestinian activists chanting and holding a sign in the Capitol rotunda.
The protest led to multiple arrests as demonstrators entered the Cannon House office building on Capitol Hill to urge Biden to use his leverage for a ceasefire and to pressure Israel to halt its actions in Gaza, Forbes reported.
The demonstration is part of a week of actions opposing what protesters view as a potential "genocide" in Palestinian territories and calling for an immediate ceasefire. The protest occurred in the aftermath of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) referred to Wednesday's protest as "an insurrection" while sharing footage of the House building's interior and exterior. She also tweeted that Capitol Police had received intelligence about potential threats to members of Congress, advising them to stay inside and use underground tunnels.
Outside the Capitol, protesters chanted slogans such as "Ceasefire now!" and "Not in our name," while some used the slogan "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," which some consider a call for the eradication of Israel, according to The Messenger.
