Flora Community Unit School District 35 Board of Education met  June 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Members Present: McCoy, Leib, Porter, Brooks, Wiley Cook and Souder were absent

Administration Present: Hackney, Leonard, Pearce, Carder, T. Pearce, and

Guests: Regional Girls’ Softball Team

Call to Order: 5:35 p.m.

1. Motion Leib, seconded by Wiley, to approve the Consent Agenda: Minutes of the May 15, 2017 meeting, Bills, Treasurer’s Report, Prevailing Wage Resolution, Renewal of Sanders Group Insurance for District, Renewal of membership to IASB for 2016-2017, SRO agreement between Flora CUSD #35 and City of Flora. Roll call: Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes.

2. The Board recognized the Girls’ Softball Team.

3. Motion Brooks, seconded by Porter, to suspend the regular meeting at 5:43 p.m. to conduct public hearing for the 2017-2018 Amended School District Budget. All ayes. Motion carried.

4. Motion Leib, seconded by Porter, to approve the amended budget for the 2017-2018 school year. Roll Call: Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes.

5. Motion Wiley, seconded by Leib, to approve the Board meeting dates for the 2017-2018 school year as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.

6. Motion Brooks, seconded by Porter, to approve the copier proposal from GFI. Roll Call: Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes.

7. Motion Wiley, seconded by Leib, to approve the asphalt work at the high school by Howell Paving. Roll call: Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes.

8. Committee Reports: Superintendent Hackney reported that the buildings and grounds committee met on May 19th and the athletic committee met on June 7th.

9. Administrator Reports: FHS Principal Pearce thanked Bob Johnson and the maintenance staff for all of their work on the lockers. Athletic Director McNeely thanked all those who sponsored or golfed in the outing. Superintendent Hackney highlighted on the end of the year luncheon for staff on May 19th.

10. Motion Brooks, seconded by Leib, to enter into executive session. (5:52 p.m.)

11. Motion Leib, seconded by Wiley, to return to regular session. (6:22 p.m.)

All ayes. Motion carried.

12. Motion Porter, seconded by Leib, to approve Jan Bible and Shari Hamilton as FHS student council co-sponsors for the 2017-2018 school year. Roll Call: Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes.

13. Motion Brooks, seconded by Wiley, to approve the request from Cheri Gill to reduce her work year from 240 days to 190 days. Roll Call: Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes.

14. Motion McCoy, seconded by Porter, to accept the resignation of district nurse Chris Butler effective the end of the 2016-2017 school year. All ayes. Motion carried.

15. Motion Brooks, seconded by Leib, to accept the resignation of Tyler Sullens as custodian effective June 12, 2017. All ayes. Motion carried.

16. Motion Wiley, seconded by Porter, to employ Terry Branch as Agriculture at FHS. Roll Call: Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes.

17. Motion Leib, seconded by McCoy, to employ Mandy Thompson as physical education teacher at FES. Roll Call: Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes.

18. Motion Brooks, seconded by Wiley, to employ Deidre Klein as speech paraprofessional at FES. Roll Call: Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes.

19. Motion Porter, seconded by Leib, to employ Meredith Wagley as elementary teacher at FES. Roll Call: McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes.

20. Motion McCoy, seconded by Brooks, to employ Monica Grove as elementary teacher at FES. Roll Call: Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes.

21. Motion Wiley, seconded by Porter, to employ Stephanie Slankard as elementary teacher at FES. Roll Call: Porter, yes; Brooks, yes; Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes.

22. Motion Brooks, seconded by McCoy, to employ Paige Earleywine as District Nurse. Roll Call: Wiley, yes; McCoy, yes; Leib, yes; Porter, yes; Brooks, yes.

23. Motion Porter, seconded by Leib, to accept the resignation of Corey Moore as assistant football coach. All ayes. Motion carried.

24. Motion McCoy, seconded by Brooks, to employ Jordan Tipsword as elementary teacher.

25. Motion Leib, seconded by Porter, to adjourn the meeting at (6:24 p.m.). All ayes. Motion carried.
