Robinson Community Unit School District No. 2 Board approves 2016 property tax levy

Robinson Community Unit School District No. 2 Board of Education met Monday, Dec. 19.

Here are the minutes as provided by Robinson CUSD No. 2:

COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2 

CRAWFORD COUNTY ROBINSON, ILLINOS 

BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING December 19, 2016 6:45pm - Truth in Taxation Hearing 7pm - Regular Meeting

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:

Dennis inboden, Amy Stone, Stacey Shew, Bill Ecton, Von Meeks, Greg Bachelor

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT:

President inboden called the public hearing to order at 6:45pm for public comments on the 2016 Tax Levy. Several community members were in attendance. Superintendent Quick gave a power point presentation to explain the Tax Levy. There were several comments from the public. A motion was made by Bachelor and seconded by Meeks to adjourn the Tax Levy Hearing. Roll call vote: Yeas: Ecton, Stone, Shew, Meeks, Bachelor, and inboden. Naysnone. Motion carried. Hearing adjourned at 7:40pm.

President Inboden called the December regular board meeting to order at 7:49 pm. After pledge and roll call, Inboden welcomed all attending.

CONSENT AGENDA

A motion was made by Ecton and seconded by Stone to approve the consent agenda (including prior minutes-November 21, 2016, December bills payable, treasurer's report, employee attendance report, student attendance report, and employments) Roll call vote: Yeas - Meeks, Bachelor, Stone, Ecton, Shew, and Inboden. Nays- none. Motion carried.

By consent motion, the Board approved the following employments:

David Holubek - RHS Head Boys' Track Coach

Tracy Dill - RHS Assistant Girls' Track Coach e 

Shelley Hatfield-RHS Cook's Helper/Dishwasher 

Tony Cork - RHS Volunteer Assistant Track

By consent motion, the Board approved the following closed session minutes to be opened:

UNIT #2 DISTRICT UPDATES/ PUBLIC COMMENT: 

There were no comments from the public.

Anne Schrey, CUTEA representative, expressed holiday best wishes and presented the board with a gift of appreciation for a good working relationship.

Dennis Inboden and the Board expressed the appreciation for all of the hard work accomplished by the Unit #2 family.

OLD BUSINESS

NONE

NEW BUSINESS A motion was made by Meeks and seconded by Shew to approve the 2016 Certificate of Property Tax levy as proposed and file the certificate of tax levy with the county clerk. Roll call vote: Yeas - Shew, Bachelor, Meeks, Ecton, Stone, and Inboden. Nays- none. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Stone and seconded by Bachelor to approve the agreement with Kemper CPA to provide financial audit services for 2017-2019. Roll call votes: Yeas - Stone, Shew, Meeks, Bachelor, Ecton, and Inboden. Nays - none. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Bachelor and seconded by Ecton to table the resolution of Bond Refunding of Health/Life Safety Bonds until the January meeting. Roll call votes: Yeas - Meeks, Bachelor, Stone, Ecton, Shew, and inboden. Nays none. Motion carried,

A motion was made by Ecton and seconded by Meeks to authorize Superintendent Quick to seek proposals for a traffic study of the NMS/RHS campus and the surrounding areas. Roll call votes: Yeas - Stone, Shew, Meeks, Bachelor, Ecton, and Inboden. Nays- none. Motion carried.

ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORTS: Superintendent Quick expressed his deep sense of gratitude for a community that helps supply the needs of our students.

RHS Principal, Victoria McDonald, gave the Board a handout with the following accomplishments:

Katelyn Thomas o Savannah Fitts was the 1" place winner in the Senior Poetry Division of the linois Outdoor News Youth Writing Contest co-sponsored by Cabela's. 

The RHS Fine Arts Night held on December 7, 2016 was a huge success. The Band, Choir, and Spanish classes performed during the evening. 

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 80 members, collected money in various projects and donated $250.00 to the following community groups: 

1. NOW - Nutrition on Weekends (Provides food for students over the weekend) 

2. Club SOAR - After School Tutoring Program 

3. Ark of the Covenant-Provides meals twice monthly to the community 

4. Karen's Krazy Giveaway Krew - Free store for those in need

5. Lisa Miller - Medical expenses

NMS Principal, Craig Beals, informed the Board of a water main leak at NMS. The school will be under a boil order on Tuesday, December 20. The Health Department will be on sight tomorrow to help with safety issues. Bottled water had been donated to the school by Marathon Pipeline and it will be used during the boil order. He also stated that under the guidance of Diana Thompson and Devon Fuller, five 8th grade students go to WES to read to students every week.

WES Principal, Jason Stark, thanked the Highland Church of Christ for the use of their facility for the WES programs. He also thanked Karen Wakefield, faculty, and the families who supported the programs. He also noted that the RHS Spanish classes came to WES and LGS to sing to the students.

LGS Principal, Kathy Bemont, praised the LGS Beginner Band Concert that was directed by Chris Jansen. She also thanked all the generous people at LGS who helped supply the needs of students. She told the Board about the Marathon Diversity Team that comes to LGS to speak to the students. She also made note that math consultants will be coming to talk to LGS teachers in January.

Jamie Rains, Special Services Director, wished everyone a Merry Christmas and was thankful for all the generosity of people.

Janis Daugherty, RHS Assistant Principal, told the Board about the Door Decoration Contest and the community service groups project.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Meeks and seconded by Shew. Roll call vote: Yeas-Ecton, Stone, Shew, Meeks, Bachelor, and Inboden. Naysnone. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 8:18 pm.

The next regular school board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 7:00pm at Nuttall Middle School.
