Community Unit School District No. 20 considers consent agenda

Meeting 05

The Lawrence County Community Unit School District 20 board met Wednesday, April 20.

The school board oversees all matters related to the district’s three schools.

Here are the meeting minutes as provided by the board:

Regular Meeting Board of Education Community Unit School District No. 20 Lawrence/Crawford Counties, Illinois April 20, 2016

A regular meeting of the Board of Education, Community Unit School District 20, was held Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at Parkside Elementary School. The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Shane Gray.

Members present: Ashley Benson

Shane Gray Steve Kocher T.J. Pargin

Members absent: Mike Seitzinger

Also present were Superintendent Doug Daugherty, Principals Julie Hayes, Jeremy Brush, and Paul Higginbotham; teachers; students; interested citizens; and members of the news media,

Pledge of Allegiance

Agenda

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Steve Kocher, to approve the agenda. All members present voted aye, motion carried.

Consent Agenda

A motion by T.J. Pargin, seconded by Ashley Benson, to approve the Consent Agenda. Roll call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye, Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye, Motion carried.

Recognition and Comments of Employees and General Public

Mr. Kevin Emmett and Mr. Richard Indahl presented information to the Board to allow Mr. Indahl the chance to video tape Lawrenceville High School graduation and sell DVD to the seniors and their parents, Mr. Indahl presented information on his video business and explained how it would be done professionally. The cost of the videos were discussed with the Board as well.

Old Business of the Board of Education

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by TJ Pargin, to approve the second reading of the Press policies. Roll call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye, Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye. Motion carried.

New Business of the Board of Education

Administrative Reports Julie Hayes, Parkside Elementary Principal

PARCC testing started on April 11" and will continue until April 21”. PTO Spring Carnival was on April 16". The week of May 9*. parents of 5th grade students are invited to the music class to learn about the Parkside Guitar lab.

Jeremy Brush, Parkview Junior High Principal

PARCC testing will be April 18-22. Modern Woodman Speech contest was April 11th. Congratulations to Austin Blevins this year's winner.

Graduation is set for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 23" at the Lawrenceville High School.

Paul Higginbotham, LHS Principal

PARCC testing is completed at the high school.

April 26" is freshman orientation at the high school. May 17" is last day for seniors. Graduation is on May 22" at 2:00 p.m.

Doug Daugherty, Superintendent

Discuss the damage from the April 6" storm. Roof will be replaced at Parkside over the summer. Damage was reported at lights at the football field and baseball fields.

The dugout roof at the baseball field has already been replaced.

Action items Approval of IESA Membership for Parkview Junior High

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by T.J. Pargin, to approve the IESA membership for Parkview Junior High for the 2016-17 school year, Roll call vote; Benson, aye; Gray, aye; Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye. Motion carried.

Approval of LHS Summer fundraiser request

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by T.J. Pargin, to approve the LHS Summer fundraiser request for the summer 2016. Roll call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye, Kocher, aye, Pargin, aye. Motion carried.

Approval of the COOP agreement with Red Hill High School

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Ashley Benson, to approve the COOP agreement with Red Hill High School for golf, cross country and wrestling. Roll call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye; Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye. Motion carried.

Approval for videotaping high school graduation

A motion by Shane Gray, seconded by Steve Kocher, to approve the request to videotape the high school graduation and to sell the video. Rolle call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye; Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye. Motion carried.

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Ashley Benson, to go into executive session to discuss Personnel Matters including resignations, employment of personnel, and posting of positions.. Roll call vote: Benson, aye; Gray, aye, Kocher, aye; Pargin, aye; Motion carried, and the Board went into closed session at 7:33 p.m.

Board member Mike Seitzinger entered executive session at 8:32 p.m.

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Ashley Benson, to reconvene into open session. All members voted aye, and the meeting reconvened to open session at 9:38 p.m.

A motion by TJ Pargin, seconded by Mike Seitzinger, to accept the resignation of Chris Mennig as high school girls' basketball coach. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

A motion by Ashley Benson, seconded by Steve Kocher, to accept the resignation of Ann Atkins as LHS Junior Class sponsor. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Ashley Benson, to accept the resignation of Veronica Eagleson as LHS Junior Class sponsor. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Mike Seitzinger to post the positions of band/music teacher, junior high math, junior high language arts teacher, LHS business teacher, summer works, LHS assistant basketball coach, special education teacher, elementary education and junior class sponsors.

A motion by Steve Kocher, seconded by Mike Seitzinger, that the meeting be adjourned. All members voted aye. Motion carried, and the meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
