Casey-Westfield education board meets to review positive changes
The Casey-Westfield board of education gathered to review positive financials, celebrate successful negotiations and approve personnel changes at its March 21 meeting, which was held at the district unit office in Casey.
A secretary, two Title I teaching assistants, one special education teacher, one kindergarten instructor and an additional elementary school teacher were approved for hire. Three administrators’ contracts were renewed, and the junior-senior high school assistant principal’s resignation was accepted, along with those of two upper school teacher and coaches.
In reviewing a bond matter, David Pistorious of First Midstate Inc. reported that the restructure of an existing levy pertaining to bond sales resulted in a $152,873 savings to taxpayers.
Board members approved proposals for two vendor contracts pertaining to flooring and asbestos abatement with Environmental Consultants Inc. and Kirchner Building Center in accordance with 10-year health life safety project plans.
School principals delivered updates on current activities. Among other guests, Monroe Elementary School enjoyed a visit from Rusty May, a popular web-TV host whose daily “SchoolToolsTV” has attracted quite a fan base among the students with his programming addressing problem solving, bullying and respect.
Middle school students visiting the Candles Holocaust Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana, met a Holocaust survivor in person; high school physics students participated in a Rube Goldberg contest at the University of Illinois. Arts, athletics and extracurricular activities are in full swing at the junior-senior high school.
