Assessing potential treasures, the Crawford County Historical Society will host an antique appraisal event at the Crawford County Museum in Robinson from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 11.

Local auctioneer Dave Swick of Newton will perform the appraisals. For a fee of $5 per item, guests may bring in one or two items for appraisal, or simply attend to enjoy the array of interesting items presented.

“Sometimes, an ordinary looking item can be very valuable,” Swick said.

Tours of the museum will also be available. The Crawford County Historical Society Museum and Library are located together at the South Cross Street building.

“Our mission (is to) bring those people together who are interested in … the history of Crawford County,” a Crawford County Historical Society representative said.

Ongoing goals for the museum include collecting any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area, such as diaries, rosters, photographs, business and school records, furniture and belongings owned by Crawford County pioneer families.

Crawford County was established in 1816 and is located in the central eastern portion of the state, adjacent to Sullivan County, Indiana. This December will mark its 200th anniversary.
