Mattoon’s City Council unanimously adopted an ordinance amending a municipal code related to property “Knox Boxes” -- a rapid entry lock box system required of certain public buildings -- during its Jan. 5 meeting.

The council also approved a fee proposal for on-demand services during construction of the CSO Satellite Treatment Facility at Riley Creek, and authorized the Public Works Director to sign a standard professional services agreement.

Justin Grady’s appointment to the Mattoon Public Library Board was ratified for a term lasting through June 30, 2017. Ed Dowd, the new director of the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce, also was welcomed by city administrator Kyle Gill.

Department reports included updates from Gill, who praised the public works department’s handling of recent excessive rains.

A police spokesman also announced that Officer Devin Patterson completed field officer training.
