Eastern Illinois University catcher Sophia Olman was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Mar. 23 after helping lead the Panthers to a perfect 4-0 record over Spring Break.
Olman’s performance was highlighted by her .545 batting average for the week, going six-for-eleven at the plate and driving in runs during all three games of Eastern Illinois’ weekend sweep against SIUE. She recorded two doubles and hit a grand slam, her second home run of the season, bringing in ten runs for the weekend. Olman also posted a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .688, drawing four walks and reaching base once via hit-by-pitch.
Defensively, Olman had a flawless week behind the plate with 25 total putouts as Eastern Illinois’ pitching staff maintained a 3.50 earned run average over those games. Her current five-game hitting streak has raised her season batting average to .269.
The Panthers have now won ten consecutive games overall and remain undefeated at 9-0 in conference play. The team is set to host Bradley in a midweek doubleheader before beginning a home series against Western Illinois.
Olman’s recent accomplishments contribute to Eastern Illinois’ ongoing success this season as they look to continue their winning streak.
