Effingham Ophthalmology Associates will become part of the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System starting March 1. This move aims to increase access to ophthalmology services for patients in the region.
The practice includes ophthalmologists John Kay, MD, and Joseph Spraul, MD. Both doctors already perform procedures at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Effingham Surgery Center. The clinic will continue operating from its current location on Medical Park Drive and will keep its existing care model.
“This addition reflects our continued focus on strengthening specialty services in the communities we serve,” said Brooke Zerrusen, vice president of practice management at Sarah Bush Lincoln. “Effingham Ophthalmology Associates brings a strong clinical reputation and established surgical expertise. This transition supports continuity of care for patients while enhancing integration across our system.”
Patients will still have access to comprehensive eye care at one site, including optometry services provided by Christy Hohenbary, OD, as well as care from an independent visiting retina specialist. An optical store located on-site will continue renting space and offering optical services, so patients can receive ophthalmology, optometry, retina, and optical care in one place.
“Our mission centers on improving the health of the people and communities we serve,” said Kim Uphoff, president and CEO of Sarah Bush Lincoln. “Welcoming Effingham Ophthalmology Associates into our health system strengthens access to specialty care close to home while preserving the care model patients value.”
Effingham Ophthalmology Associates is now part of Sarah Bush Lincoln’s expanding physician network. This reinforces the health system’s goal to provide high-quality care with improved access and a seamless patient experience.
