State Representative Brad Halbrook welcomed Illinois County Fair Queen Krista Phillips of Effingham to the Illinois House of Representatives Floor on March 24.
The visit highlights the tradition and community spirit represented by county fairs across Illinois, as well as the achievements of young leaders like Phillips.
Halbrook said, “I am honored to welcome, from Effingham County in my district, the 2026 Miss Illinois County Fair Queen, Krista Phillips. Krista was crowned at the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs convention and now serves as an ambassador for one of our state’s most important traditions.”
Phillips is a senior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign studying business management and marketing. She plans to return to Effingham after graduation in May to start her marketing career with J&J Gaming while pursuing her goal of opening a small business. During his remarks on the significance of county fairs, Halbrook said, “In many towns, the county fair is the one time each year when the entire community comes together—neighbors, families, and small businesses alike—to celebrate what makes their hometown special.”
Halbrook concluded his comments by saying: “Krista, we thank you for your willingness to serve, for representing Illinois agriculture with excellence, and for carrying forward a tradition that means so much to so many across our state.” His full comments are available on YouTube.
Halbrook has served in his role since being elected in 2023 as a Republican representative for the state’s 107th House District. He replaced previous state representative Blaine Wilhour according to public records.
The event reflects ongoing efforts by lawmakers like Halbrook to support local traditions and recognize individuals who contribute positively within their communities.
