Eastern Illinois University’s baseball team defeated Morehead State on March 27, improving their record to 14-9 while the Eagles fell to 11-15. The Panthers scored a total of 16 runs, highlighted by an offensive surge in the sixth and seventh innings that included six home runs.
The game’s momentum shifted when Eastern Illinois trailed 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Panthers responded with seven runs on six hits, including three home runs in that inning alone. Mike O’Conor started with a three-run homer, followed by Chris Worcester’s three-run shot and Joey Hagen’s solo home run.
O’Conor and Worcester each finished with two home runs for Eastern Illinois, while James Love and Hagen added one apiece. O’Conor went 3-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs, and Worcester contributed four hits and four RBIs. Hagen drove in three more runs as part of his two-hit performance.
Morehead State managed nine runs on seven hits but could not keep up with Eastern Illinois’s offense. Kamden Hawks started for the Eagles, pitching five innings before being relieved by Cole Wells, who took the loss after allowing five earned runs over one inning.
On the mound for Eastern Illinois, Tyler Conklin earned the win after throwing six-and-two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Reliever Geshel pitched two-and-one-third innings to close out the game.
The teams will continue their weekend series on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
