The Ohio Valley Conference Men’s Golf Championship will take place April 26-29 on the Ackerman-Allen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, located on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. This marks the first time that the OVC Championship will be held on this course, which has previously hosted NCAA Championships.
The event is significant as it brings together 11 men’s golf teams—Bryant, Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Little Rock, Morehead State, SIUE, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin and Western Illinois—for a competition featuring three rounds of stroke play. The top four teams after stroke play will advance to Match Play on the final day.
Teams are scheduled for a practice round on Saturday before teeing off Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. The All-OVC and All-Newcomer Teams will be announced prior to Saturday’s practice round. Awards for Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year—as well as All-Tournament and Tournament MVP honors—will be presented after stroke play concludes Tuesday.
Eastern Illinois’ best individual finish at an OVC Championship came from David Lawrence in 2013 when he tied for second with a total score of 213 over 54 holes. The Panthers’ best team finishes were fourth place in both 2001 and 2003. This season’s team has been led by Alex Siatos with a season stroke average of 75.7; freshman Luke Watson follows closely with an average of 75.8 and Jack Roche at 75.9.
The Ackerman-Allen Course is an 18-hole championship layout designed by Pete Dye featuring large bent-grass greens and fairways with rolling hills and tree-lined fairways. For this championship event it will play as a par-72 course measuring approximately 6,900 yards.
