Horizon Health announced on March 17 that it will offer a Safe Sitter class for boys and girls ages 11 to 13 on Friday, April 3. The class is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Horizon Health Education Center, located at 15197 US Highway 150 in Paris.

The Safe Sitter program is designed to teach children important safety skills for when they are home alone, caring for themselves or younger siblings, or babysitting others. The course aims to help participants learn about personal safety, child development, and age-appropriate activities.

According to Horizon Health, the class will also cover tips on safety and security precautions as well as the business aspects of babysitting. Additional benefits include enhanced self-esteem, introductory employment skills, and other life skills.

The cost of the class is $50 per person, which includes materials and lunch. Parents are not required to be present during the session except for drop-off and pick-up times. Registration must be completed by Friday, March 27 at 5 p.m., through MyHorizonHealth.org/Classes. For more information about the program or registration process, interested individuals can call 217-466-4333.

The Safe Sitter course is nationally recognized and provides young people with practical knowledge that may help them handle real-life situations safely.
