Horizon Health announced on Apr. 28 that it will host its second annual Operation: H.E.A.L. program from June 8 to June 10, offering high school students a chance to explore careers in healthcare.
The event aims to help students learn about the variety of roles available in the healthcare field and provide hands-on experience through interactive activities led by professionals from different departments.
Operation: H.E.A.L., which stands for Healthcare Education and Leadership, is open to incoming freshmen through graduating seniors. The three-day program will be held at two Horizon Health locations in Paris, Illinois: the Horizon Health Education Center on June 8 and June 10, and the main campus on June 9. Each day runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This unique opportunity provides valuable insight into the many healthcare careers available,” said Christina Hodgson, Horizon Health Public Relations and Marketing Manager. “It offers something for everyone—whether a student has already chosen a specific career path or is still exploring their options.”
Students participating in the program will attend presentations and demonstrations from several departments including nursing, respiratory care, radiology, laboratory services, rehabilitation services, emergency medical services/ambulance operations, clinic specialty services, surgery, pharmacy and more. Activities include medication compounding, suturing practice, blood draws, lab cultures analysis, wound care instruction, casting for fractures demonstrations as well as an ambulance tour.
An optional blood typing session will also be offered so participants can learn their blood type (A, B, AB or O; positive or negative). Lunch will be provided each day along with a T-shirt for attendees. Registration is limited to twenty students who must sign up by May 23 at MyHorizonHealth.org/OperationHeal.
