Marshall City election results came in with John Hasten winning over incumbent Mayor John Trefz.
Prior to the election, Ward 3 Alderman Warren Le Fever wasn’t sure what to expect but he said that there were no serious concerns on the election. He said the election was “all about personality.”
“There are no big, hot and heavy issues here,” Le Fever said. “There are just no burning issues, and it’s really kind of peaceful through here.”
“Our problems down here are how Chicago is going to hurt us next time with the taxes. We look at the idea of having taxation increased on us with Pritzker, but down here that doesn’t affect the local issues,” Le Fever said.
He added that, unlike the other areas, his, in general, did not see an extreme challenge on COVID-19.
“Unless you go in a Walmart or a major store no one here is wearing a mask,” he said.
Le Fever remains a City Council Member until his term expires in 2023.
Hasten who lead the race with 57.69 percent of the vote over Trefz with 37.44 percent had two more opponents in the race. David Meeker had 4.87 percent, and no votes were cast for Mackenzie Rogers.
Nobody had run for the city treasurer’s office and the rest of the seats only had one candidate for each. Nancy Mitley for city clerk, (29 percent voter turnout), Robert (Bob) Nelson for Marshall City Ward 1 Alderman (33.6 percent voter turnout), Vickie Wallace for Marshall City Ward 2 Alderman (32.4 percent voter turnout), Jarod Green for Marshall City Ward 3 Alderman (23.5 percent voter turnout), and Logan Sanders for Marshall City Ward 4 Alderman (26.1 percent voter turnout).
