Eastern Illinois University announced on March 31 that its volleyball program has added seven new players for the upcoming season, including five freshmen and two junior college transfers. Head Coach Ryan Millar introduced the incoming class, which features Addison Erb, Kaeden Foxx, Emma Hanson, Anna McEwen, McKenna Morton, Abana Teran, and Mirea Thederahn. Kayla Coolman and Peyton Castillo have also joined the team earlier this year.

The addition of these athletes is seen as an important step for EIU as it aims to remain competitive in the Ohio Valley Conference. Coach Millar said he believes this group will provide “the necessary tools to compete for another OVC title.”

Assistant Coach Gardella said, “This recruiting class is going to be very special. We have a lot of young players who are incredibly eager to compete at a high level combined with our JUCO transfers who bring some more experience to round out the group. I am incredibly excited to watch these girls learn, grow, and make their mark on EIU volleyball.”

The new recruits include standout athletes from across several states and internationally. Addison Erb was recognized as a two-time all-conference recipient in Illinois; Kaeden Foxx earned multiple honors in Florida high school beach and indoor volleyball; Emma Hanson received academic and athletic awards in Minnesota; Anna McEwen joins from Parkland College after leading her team defensively; McKenna Morton led her Texas team to a state title; Abana Teran brings experience from Daytona State College; while Mirea Thederahn competed both in Germany and Florida.

Coach Millar praised each recruit’s unique skills: “Addison Erb brings an imposing physical presence… Her size combined with her upside gives her the potential to be a game-changer,” he said about Erb. Of Foxx he remarked: “Kaeden Foxx brings an electric presence… She will make an immediate impact on our program.” He described Hanson as someone whose “consistency and attention to detail make her someone we believe can contribute early,” while noting McEwen’s “experience, resilience, and a championship mindset” gained at Parkland College.

On Morton’s arrival Millar stated: “Her ability to impact the match in multiple ways makes her an exciting addition.” Regarding Teran he said: “Abana TĂ©ran is an explosive talent with offensive versatility… we’re excited to see her thrive in our system.” For Thederahn he noted: “Her competitive spirit and attention to detail will allow her to make a strong impact as she transitions to the college level.” About Coolman joining early for beach season Millar commented: “Kyla Coolman is a dynamic setter… Her upbeat energy is infectious.” Castillo’s transfer from New Mexico State was highlighted by Millar’s remarks about her “experience, versatility, and strong volleyball IQ developed at the Division I level.”

With this diverse incoming class combining youth talent with experienced transfers, Eastern Illinois University’s volleyball program looks ahead toward another competitive campaign.
