Eastern Illinois University’s men’s golf team finished second at the Keene Trace Collegiate on March 24, trailing Morehead State by six strokes in the one-day, 36-hole tournament hosted by Morehead State.
The result highlights a strong showing for Eastern Illinois, with two Panthers placing in the individual top ten. The team’s total score was 598 across two rounds, posting scores of 308 and an improved 290.
Jack Yewchuk, competing as an individual, and Cole Jaworski both led Eastern Illinois individually with scores of 149. Yewchuk recorded rounds of 75 and 74, while Jaworski shot rounds of 76 and a closing round of 73. The overall individual competition ended in a three-way tie between Xavier’s Kyle Smith and Sam Fauver and Kentucky’s Chase Cauthen, each shooting even totals of 144.
Other notable performances for Eastern Illinois included Luke Watson and Alex Siatos tying for sixteenth place with scores of 150. Watson posted rounds of 77 and then improved to a final-round score of 73. Siatos opened with a round of 79 before shooting the lowest EIU round on the day with a closing score of 71. Jack Roche tied for twentieth at 151 (78-73), while Ian Hollander placed twenty-seventh with a total score of 154 (77-77).
Trey Oswald finished tied for twenty-ninth at 157 (80-77), while Reis Claybrooke played as an individual competitor finishing tied for thirty-seventh after shooting rounds totaling to160 (81-79).
The tournament demonstrated competitive depth among Ohio Valley Conference teams as well as strong individual performances from Eastern Illinois golfers.
