Arcola Community Unit School District 306 Board of Education met July 24.

A special meeting of the Board of Education of Arcola Community Unit District #306 Arcola, Illinois was called to order in the High School Library at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025 for the purpose of discussing the upcoming high school football season.
President L. Shonkwiler called the meeting to order. The following members answered roll call: Stout, L. Shonkwiler, Conlin, Leyva-Sanchez, J. Shonkwiler, Wise, and Stenger.
Others present were: Tom Mulligan, Nick Lindsey, Jason Conn, Sergio Medina, Hugo Garza, Steven Franco, Tom Eddleman, Ivan Franco, and Fredy Moreno.

President L. Shonkwiler recognized the visitors and asked for public comment
Business: A long discussion occurred about the current status of the football program and the upcoming season. The coaches provided an update on their recruitment efforts, current numbers, and their vision for the program. They also provided their perspective on their desire to run the entire program with Arcola athletes as long as they have enough varsity athletes to do so. There was also discussion on a possible two-year cooperative with Cerro Gordo and Bement beginning this school year as an option that would allow Arcola High School students to play football in case enough student numbers cannot be generated locally. The coaches are hosting a player/parent meeting next Monday at 7:15 pm to hopefully get a better handle on exact number interested in participating. The school board will then meet on Monday, July 28 at 8:00 pm to make a decision on whether or not to approve a cooperative with Cerro Gordo and Bement.
