State Representative Adam Niemerg hosted his 3rd Annual Kids Fishing Derby at Sam Parr Lake in Newton. The event, held on Saturday, saw the participation of one hundred children and adults.

“Thank you to all of the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who brought their youngsters out to enjoy the great outdoors at one of our premier fishing spots in Illinois at Sam Parr Lake,” said Niemerg. “This is a great event that we partner with IDNR (Illinois Department of Natural Resources) to get kids involved with the growing sport of fishing, get some fresh air, and take a break from all of the video games, TV, and computer time.”

Niemerg expressed satisfaction with this year’s turnout. “I am very pleased with the turnout this year. We continue to grow, and the kids have a fun time catching a fish for the first time or getting to fish again in a great location in Jasper County,” he added.

The biggest fish caught was a 3 lb. catfish while most fish caught were 11.
