The Illinois General Assembly, expected to adjourn on May 24th, has made little progress in balancing the state's budget. Democrats are anticipated to employ various strategies to cover the deficit, similar to their approach last year when they passed a massive budget at 3:00 a.m. The expectation is that similar tactics will be used this year.

Critics argue that Illinois residents deserve transparency from Governor Pritzker and his administration. However, they claim that what they receive instead are untruths. The Democratic plan for this year allegedly includes an additional $1 billion in taxes, benefits for undocumented immigrants, and a political game of election interference.

Illinois has been highlighted as having the worst rainy-day fund in the nation according to a report by the Illinois Policy Institute.

In addition, critics call for an end to Illinois' sanctuary state status through the repeal of the TRUST Act. They claim that providing services to undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers is costing taxpayers an estimated $2.84 billion from fiscal year 2023 through fiscal year 2025. This figure does not include education costs or other various state and local services.
