Marshall Community Unit School District C-2 Board of Education met March 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Marshall Board of Education met in special session for the purpose of a student discipline hearing. Administrators Mr. Ross, Mrs. Williams, Mr. Ritchey, and Mr. Maxwell were present. Board Members Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel were present. No members of the public were present.

I. Pledge of Allegiance, Call to Order

Mr. Macke called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.

Mr. Crews led the Pledge of Allegiance.

II. Opportunity for Public Comment - Two Minute Limit

An opportunity for public comment was offered.

Mr. Ross As of the morning of Friday, March 10, 2023, Logan Eitel has resigned his position as a member of the Marshall C.U.S.D. C-2 Board of Education. Section 10-10 of the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/10-10) provides the general timeline for filling a vacancy as follows: With less than 88 days before the next regularly scheduled election for the vacant seat, the board may appoint someone within 60 days to fill the remainder of the term. If the board fails to fill the vacancy within 60 days, the regional superintendent of schools would have 30 days to fill the term. The next regularly scheduled election for this seat is April 4, 2023. The term for this seat ends at the regular May Board of Education Meeting on May 11th.

III. Student Discipline Hearing

C. Action(s) on Student Discipline Hearing

The board entered into Closed Session citing (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9) – student disciplinary cases) at 6:05 p.m. on a motion from Mr. Macke and second from Mr. Crews with Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

The Board returned to Open Session at 6:08 p.m. on a motion from Mr. Gard and second from Mr. Macke with Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

Mr. Macke made a motion that Student A be found guilty. Mrs. Hendrix seconded the motion. Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

The board re-entered into Closed Session citing (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9) - student disciplinary cases) at 6:10 p.m. on a motion from Mr. Crews and second from Mrs. Hendrix with Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

The Board returned to Open Session at 6:20 p.m. on a motion from Mr. Macke and second from Mrs. Hendrix with Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

Mr. Macke made a motion that Student A be expelled, with an opportunity for an Alternative Learning Placement for a calendar year beginning March 15, 2023. Mrs. Hendrix seconded the motion. Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.

IV. Adjourn

Mr. Gard made a motion to adjourn at 6:21 p.m. that was seconded by Mrs. Hendrix with Mr. Macke, Mr. Crews, Mrs. Hendrix, Mr. Gard, and Mrs. Rayhel all voting Aye.
