Charleston ranked 757th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The City of Charleston had the 757th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- down 34 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Charleston was $13.79 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the East Central Reporter, Charleston generated $292,210.50 in net sales from its 11 lottery retailers in January 2016, compared to $241,234.50 in January 2015.

The City of Charleston is in Coles County, and has a population of 21,196, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Mattoon.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $26,543.83.

Charleston's top lottery retailer is Hucks #250 located at 501 Madison Ave, Charleston, IL 61920.

Hucks #250 generated 22 percent of Charleston's January 2016 lottery ticket sales and 8 percent of Coles County's sales that month, which was $822,859.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top four cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Coles County in 2015 were Ashmore, Mattoon, Oakland and Charleston.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
