Area residents who need help filing their taxes this year can work with IRS-certified assistants through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
According to a press release from the Council on Aging, the IRS refunded over $1 million to taxpayers who used the free service to complete their tax forms last year.
The Council on Aging has collaborated with the LifeSpan Volunteer Program to provide tax preparation assistance for over a quarter of a century. Although the service is open to citizens of all ages, recipients must meet income criteria.
