After 30 years with the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System and having serving as interim leader since July, Jerry Esker has become the organization’s new president and CEO, the board of directors recently announced.

Esker began with SBL as a staff pharmacist in 1985, advancing quickly to pharmacy director and then becoming VP of practice management in 2007. He facilitated the department’s strategic growth, nearly doubled the number of staff, and effectively curtailed resignations.

With his leadership, the entire system thrived. Board Chair Steve Wente said that practice management growth is directly proportional to the organization’s overall success, with physician revenue more than doubling under Esker’s watch.

“The board members have known and worked with Jerry for many years,” Wente said. “He led the practice management division for nine years and has proven time and again what a knowledgeable and valuable asset he is to Sarah Bush Lincoln.”

Esker has resided with his family in Charleston for over 30 years, maintaining active community ties.

“I am humbled that the board of directors asked me to lead Sarah Bush Lincoln,” Esker said. “I’ve been part of this organization almost from the beginning and have enjoyed contributing to its success. I am excited about our future and the many ways we can positively impact the health of our community.”

Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center employs 2,266 individuals and continues to expand, with approximately 40 locations and new facilities and renovations in progress.
