CreditDonkey ranks Charleston ninth in safety statewide
How Illinois cities and towns rate in safety is the focus of a recent survey performed by CreditDonkey, which places Charleston solidly within the top 10 communities statewide, based on an existing standard FBI template.
Citizens planning to move to Illinois, as well as current dwellers, can compare and contrast jurisdictions in various types of crime — from personal incidents to property damage — by studying the survey results. With violent crimes listed as only 1.3 per 1,000 inhabitants, and property crimes tallied as 4.8 per 1,000 for 2016, Charleston comes in among the top tier for overall public safety, according to the survey. Notably, it was one of few cities with no robberies at all throughout 2014.
Among Charleston’s noted strengths is its quality of fire protection services and handling of related aesthetics. Charleston’s fire department strives to preserve the city’s rustic atmosphere with minimal intrusion during emergencies by using "Knox Boxes," or the Knox Rapid Entry System, to gain easy access during an incident without having to break down doors or gates. Knox Boxes are high-security lock boxes mounted near entrances that hold keys and access cards to let emergency personnel in without delay.
CreditDonkey, headquartered in Pasadena, California, began as a credit card comparison site publishing credit card reviews, deals and tips to allow U.S. consumers to make informed credit decisions. Since then, the service has branched out to include rankings on other important aspects of American life.
