Arcola City Council will meet tonight to discuss rag doll pitch, resignations and renewals.

Grocery business, gas taxes and a pitch for a commemorative structure honoring America’s legendary Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls will headline Arcola City Council’s meeting at 7 p.m. today, March 21, at City Hall.

Committee meetings are slated to precede the meeting, specifically budget and finance at 5 p.m.; and employee relations, police, ordinance and enforcement at 5:30.

A request from Arcola’s annual “Pop the Top” car show personnel for street closure will be reviewed first, followed by reports from the motor fuel tax engineer, revolving loan fund committee and a specific loan pertaining to Arcola Grocery LLC.

A Health Alliance contract is up for renewal, and a salary increase for City employee Alex Fuqua is also on the agenda.

Two resignations will be tendered -- Doug Homann and Jeff Bachman, respectively.

Additionally, a local project honoring Arcola resident John Barton Gruelle, creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy, will be proposed in the form of a bench at the Depot.

Council members Kendall Moore, Sue Key, John Guyot, Terry Foran, William Reece and Mark Smith will present committee reports.

In regular business, meeting minutes from March 7 and bills from March 5 through March 18 will be approved.

Arcola City Hall is located at 114 Locust St.
