EIU Dancers get ready for Spring Show at Doudna Center

The EIU Dancers troupe is preparing for its upcoming Spring Show at the Doudna Fine Arts Center.

The Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Dancers will perform its Spring Show at Doudna Fine Arts Center, 1860 Seventh St., Charleston, with shows at 7 p.m. Friday, March 25, and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26.

Directed by Amanda Chapman plus student and guest choreographers, the EIU Dancers showcase the energy, vitality and fun of modern and contemporary dance, highlighting the many styles of dance choreographed and rehearsed throughout the season.

Tickets are available at a cost of $5 and $10 and can be obtained by contacting the box office at 217-581-3110. Open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the box office is also open one hour prior to each performance.

The EIU Dancers is a student-run organization sponsored by the EIU Kinesiology and Sports Studies Department and the Doudna Fine Arts Center. Created in 1981, the troupe is dedicated to furthering dance appreciation on campus and in the surrounding community.

The group’s repertoire ranges from modern dance, ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop to character pieces. Many of the dancers are given the opportunity to perform for smaller EIU functions and area public schools when invited.

Auditions for the EIU Dancers are held each spring and fall, open to anyone with a passion for and interest in dance.
