The Arcola School District #306 board of education's finance committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 7, at the Arcola District Office, located at 351 W. Washington St., to discuss transportation, budget and other issues.

The meeting will open with the communications portion, allowing members of the audience to address the board about any items not previously included on the agenda. Speakers are asked to limit their comments to five minutes apiece.

Foremost in discussion items is a transportation proposal, to be followed by a fiscal year 2017 budget review, budget projections and other matters, prior to adjournment.

Schools within the Arcola #306 District include Arcola Elementary School and Arcola Junior Senior High School, both at 351 W. Washington St.

In upcoming events, a book fair at the elementary school is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 17 in the school gym; citizens can look forward to updates on this event by signing up for an online app.

“Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read,” Arcola Elementary School Principal Angie Gentry said. “It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school … unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits. Remember, all purchases benefit our school.”
