Marshall City Council recently met to review reports and discuss municipal bids.

With Mayor Camie Sanders presiding, the Marshall City Council meeting was called to order Feb. 8 at City Hall to approve reports, vote on grants and discuss contract matters.

Only one topic required extended consideration: a contract for recycling. After initially rejecting an original recycling bid for contractual services at the recycling center by a vote of 6-4, Councilman Mark Strait made a motion — seconded by Vickie Wallace — to award a contract to Republic Services Inc. in the amount of $740 per month. The motion was carried by a second vote of 8-2.

The council was unanimous on all other matters, including approval of previous meeting minutes and respective reports from the collector, treasurer, police and building permit departments, as well as investment transactions.

The Marshall Police Department collected $629.30 in fines during the month of January; the balance of city funds was $8,605,902.88 as of Jan. 31; and bills were approved for a total of $197,333.24.

Two agreements were easily approved: a local Public Agency Agreement for Federal participation with Illinois Department of Transportation, with a full grant in the amount of $228,192.00; and a bid for waste contractual services at various city sites, awarded to Keslers in the amount of $300 per month, with weekly downtown pickup.
