Trojan Boosters to donate funds to Charleston Board of Education at upcoming meeting
Honoring students, planning for district finances and negotiating salaries, the Charleston Board of Education Community School District No. 1 is set to meet at at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Feb. 17, at Charleston High School, 1615 Lincoln Ave.
“Focus on Students and Good News Reports” tops the agenda list, commending outstanding students’ accomplishments. Notably, the board will be accepting a donation from the Trojan Boosters Club, a not-for-profit organization run by volunteers, supporting Charleston Athletics since 1974.
The Trojan Boosters Club promotes interscholastic athletics and related activities of the school district, raising and distributing athletics funds at the high school and middle school levels, as well as supporting uniforms, warm-ups and miscellaneous equipment.
Board members will also concentrate on district financial planning and review. In the evening’s consent agenda, the board will approve minutes from Jan. 20 and financial reports before reviewing old business. Acting on new business, the board plans to establish a concussion oversight team and a three-year calendar.
Decisions will also revolve around extending and re-assigning contracts with outside vendors regarding insurance, food service and health care benefits for employees. Superintendent of Schools Jim Littleford will update budget estimates, pre-school and kindergarten pre-registration and an association event scheduled for spring.
Three resignations will be accepted, while two leaves of absence and one transfer will be granted for elementary school paraprofessionals. Volunteer and substitute teacher personnel news will be updated.
The board will review additional personnel-related matters in a closed session, including administrative salaries, and discuss newsletter communication and the district’s enrollment summary before adjourning.
