Trustees congratulate Oblong's newest Eagle Scouts
The village of Oblong’s Board of Trustees congratulated Eagle Scouts Will Cox and Brian Stutesman during its meeting Feb. 3 at the Municipal Building.
Certificates of recognition were presented to Cox and Stautsman, who are among only 2 percent of all Boy Scouts to achieve this award. Bill Cox Jr., the local Boy Scouts of America leader, was also present.
Katie Blankenbaker with the Oblong School District asked that the Character Counts 5K run be held April 1 with sign-up at 5:30 and the run to start at 6 p.m. With the route still pending, the board authorized her request. A rain date was set for April 15.
Mayor Randy Rich reported complaints about stray cats and requested that his office contact the Spayed/Neuter Society, to whom the village will send a $500 check. He also reported receiving concerns about Republic Services’ rate increases for waste management and suggested annexation of areas outside the village in order to keep customers’ costs consistent.
Police Chief Chad Pusey mentioned the department's participation in ongoing training in Effingham and Salem.
Finally, Rich added that all departments should begin budget work for the next fiscal year, and the board approved payment of pending bills that would incur fees and staff reimbursements.
