East Moline seeks public comment at long-range transportation plan meeting

The City of East Moline invites the public to attend a long-range transportation plan workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. today.

Citizens are encouraged to attend, offer their opinions and provide feedback on the draft of the 2045 Quad Cities Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).

The plan is typically updated every five years under the auspices of the Bi-State Regional Commission, and the government highly values public involvement. For the newest draft plan, meetings began in May 2014 in preparation, using Web-based engagement tools to reach out to residents regarding their perceptions of the system’s strengths, flaws and needs.

After releasing an assessment survey in October 2014, and conducting a public transit summit event and two community neighborhood outreach meetings in December 2015, results were tabulated and adapted to define development and transportation performance goals.

Today’s meeting will be a choice opportunity to participate, as the plan will be considered for adoption at the Bi-State Regional Commission meeting on March 23. Each five-year plan assesses the anticipated needs of the Quad Cities’ road, highway, pedestrian, bicycle, rail and other intermodal transportation systems over the next three decades.

The meeting will be held at East Pointe Station, 1201 14th Ave.
