The Matoon City Council honored a veteran city worker.

The Mattoon City Council honored a veteran city worker, awarded bids for street repair materials and approved plans for the Heritage Park project at its Feb. 2 meeting.

The council acknowledged Stan Kenton’s retirement from the Public Works Department after more than 36 years of service.

After a presentation by the Mattoon Arts Council, the council approved plans for the Heritage Park Project at the intersection of 17th Street and Broadway Avenue.

The council also awarded bids for street maintenance to Howell Asphalt Company, CCI Redi-Mix and Tuscola Builders Inc. for construction materials.
